FRANKFORT, Ky. -- – Lexington attorney Alison Lundergan Grimes wants to be Kentucky's next Secretary of State. The 33-year old Democrat filed her papers and paid the $500 qualifying fee Thursday.
"I've worked with the office of secretary of state and know how to make it work better. I think it's time for a new generation to take the reins, for fresh leadership and enthusiasm. And as I travel across the state, I think that's something that the citizens of the commonwealth will see."
It appears Grimes will face Elaine Walker in the Democratic primary, with the winner taking on Republican Bill Johnson in the fall. But the filing deadline is next Tuesday.
