Lexington's Glendover Elementary Named A Blue Ribbon School
LEXINGTON, Ky. - Glendover Elementary is one of five Kentucky schools to be honored by the U-S Department of Education.
Arne Duncan, U-S Secretary of Education, announced the full list of National Blue Ribbon Schools via web video on Tuesday. "Each of the recognized schools send a strong message that despite the very real challenges that students, families, and communities face, with great teaching, great principals, and hard work and vital support, every student can achieve the American dream," Duncan said.
Blue Ribbon Schools receive the honor for either their overall academic excellence or their progress in improving student achievement.
“I could not be more proud of the children and staff,” Principal Cathy Fine said in a release Tuesday. “We set really high expectations, and our children are not afraid of hard work and achieve at those high levels. This (award) validates all the good work we’re doing here.”
236 public and 50 private schools were singled out for distinction this year. Other schools in Kentucky making the list include Auburn Elementary, Beechwood High School in Fort Mitchell, Mann Elementary in Union, and Star Elementary in Rush.
Official induction ceremonies take place November 18th and 19th in Washington D.C.
