Lexington Zika Patient Did Not Contract Virus In Kentucky

Lexington Fayette County Health Department

The Lexington-Fayette County Health Department is taking extra precautions after a man who is visiting the city developed symptoms of the Zika virus.

Officials with the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department want us to assure you that so far, no mosquitoes in Kentucky are known to carry the Zika virus.  But, Health Department Spokesman Kevin Hall says they will be modifying their mosquito-spraying schedule because there is a confirmed case of someone who is infected with the virus.   “There is an instance of lab confirmed infection of Zika that’s been identified in Fayette County.  This is an adult visitor who traveled from an area where this virus is circulating.  The person developed symptoms while visiting Lexington.  But it’s really worth stressing to the community that Zika is not known to be circulating in the mosquito population in Kentucky.  We don’t think that this is at risk of being spread but we are taking precautions to help ease any concerns that the people of Lexington might have”

That precaution will be to spray the area of Lexington with the 40502 zip code for mosquitoes because that’s where the man who was visiting the city was staying.
