LEXINGTON, Ky. – Central Kentucky is losing a bookstore. Waldenbooks in the Fayette Mall will shut its doors for good on January 31st.
A spokeswoman for Borders, the parent company of Waldenbooks, wouldn't speak on tape, but says the decision to close the store was based on several factors. Without citing specifics, Mary Davis says the Lexington location wasn't meeting business objectives.
Sixteen employees, most of them part-time workers, will be affected by the closure. A store-wide sale is underway, with price reductions starting at 20 percent.
The Fayette Mall Waldenbooks is the only Borders operation in Lexington. The company has nine other stores across the state.
