Lexington, KY – The city of Lexington has received a $200,000 grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to assess environmental contamination at properties known as "brownfields."
Brownfields are abandoned, idled or underused industrial and commercial properties where possible contamination is an obstacle to expansion or redevelopment.
The city says the grant will be used to conduct environmental site assessments, identifying whether hazardous materials are present and developing plans to clean them up.
