Lexington Pool Season Off To Leaky Start

lexingtonky.gov

The beginning of pool season in Lexington hasn’t exactly gone swimmingly, but officials say the technical problems keeping some facilities closed should be resolved soon.

Despite a boost in funding for maintenance at the city’s pools this year, a number of unexpected leaks sprang up not long after parks officials began refilling them.

"We had a pretty extensive winter and we think that had something to do with it," Parks and Recreation deputy director Brian Rogers explains. "It's unfortunate that we can't for safety reasons put water into the pools until the week before we open them. So we discover these things right at the last second."

Affected pools include Tates Creek Aquatic Center, Woodland Aquatic Center, and Shillito Pool. While Tates Creek has reopened completely, Woodland’s lap pool remains off limits while crews fix a leak behind a vinyl liner.

Rogers says Shillito should be back online by the end of the week.
