Lexington Is Number 61

Lexington moves up a notch in the latest U.S. Census estimates.  The city has grown by 5.1% in the last census, which ranks it 61st in size in the nation.  That’s up from the 62nd spot in 2013.

Kevin Atkins, Chief Development Officer for the city says the high quality of life in Lexington and a range of job opportunities are making the city a desirable place to live and work.  “I think we have a very competitive city that people want to move to, live in, run their businesses in, locate their businesses in.  We have the quality of life, we have the schools.  We have the higher education institutions.  We have everything a community can offer.  And the growing number of residents isn’t having a negative impact on employment opportunities.  “Even though our population’s growing, our jobless rate remains low.  It’s 4% in the latest announcement.  So even with growth, we’re keeping our people employed.”

Other changes in the Bluegrass according to the most recent census, among the 50 largest cities in the country, Louisville fell from 28th to 30th and Bowling Green, Kentucky’s third-largest city has grown by 6.1% since 2010.
