A Lexington Neighborhood Kroger Store Is Going Out Of Business

The doors will close at the Romany Road Kroger store on September 12th

Kroger spokesman Tim McGurk sent out a statement announcing what he called a difficult decision.  He wrote "This is no reflection on the 103 associates who work at this store. They will all be offered similar employment at other Lexington area Kroger stores.”  McGurk went on to say “This is not a decision that the company wanted to make."

According to Kroger officials, the Romany location has been losing significant revenue since 2008 and the outlook for future earnings is such that the company doesn’t see a way to reverse it.  McGurk believes the number of Kroger stores in the area is partly to blame, there are three within three miles of each other.  This past January a new-state-of-the-art store on Euclid Avenue and a grand reopening was just held at the Chinoe Road location, investments by the company of $30 million.
