LEXINGTON, Ky. -- – Four candidates for Lexington Mayor debated ideas for smart growth in a forum Wednesday night sponsored by the Gaines Center for the Humanities. The event was held at Lexington's downtown public library, near the stalled CentrePointe project, which was a major topic of discussion for the candidates.
Incumbent Mayor Jim Newberry touted projects such as the restoration of the Lyric Theater. Vice Mayor Jim Gray blamed Newberry for what he called a big hole in the center of Lexington. Former Mayor Teresa Isaac focused on accomplishments achieved during her tenure, and technology consultant Skip Horine discussed the need for smaller government.
The primary election is May 18.
