Lexington Mayor Jim Gray Calls City's Future 'Bright'

While schools and businesses closed today and most people stayed home today because of the snow, the Hyatt’s Patterson Ballroom was filled for Mayor Jim Gray’s State of the City Address.

Gray listed the successes since taking office 7 years ago such as increasing the public safety force, improving the city’s finances, keeping pension commitments without raising taxes and moving out of the recession into a flourishing economy. Gray said Lexington is known as a great place to do business by focusing on three goals, creating jobs, running and efficient government and striving to be a great American city.

In his address, Gray said funding for public safety would continue to be a top priority. He also touted the new high-speed internet company that will begin work this week, the opening of the Historic Courthouse which is completely leased and on budget and the expansion of the Convention Center, which is expected to bring 25% more business to the downtown area annually.
