Lexington Healthcare Worker Has TB

By Stu Johnson

LEXINGTON, Ky. – A healthcare worker at Good Samaritan Hospital is being treated for tuberculosis. The Lexington resident is a student at Eastern Kentucky University. Jessica Dumaurier with the Fayette County Health Department says hospital staff and fellow students have been contacted.

"Around 50 students at Eastern and they have already been notified. I think they tested around 80 workers at Good Samaritan this week and then they're looking to identify those patients who might have had exposure or additional workers."

The incubation period for TB is ten to 12 weeks, so Dumaurier says some patients will undergo re-evaluations. TB is treated by taking several antibiotics for six to 12 months.
