Lexington Gears Up For Football Season

The population on UK’s campus is going to go up for a few hours this weekend when the Wildcats play their first football game of the season.  UK and city officials say Lexington is ready, but they need fans to do their part.

The season kick-off in Commonwealth Stadium is Saturday night at 7:30 and the Kentucky Wildcats will take on Southern Miss.  Lexington Police Chief Mark Barnard has this advice for fans. “Please come early.  I say it every year because if you’re waiting it will take time to get in because it’s the first game.  It’s going to be 70 degrees.  It is going to be that fall crisp air and the football season is on us so a lot of people will attend”

Along with coming early, you can save time by knowing what you can and can’t bring inside the stadium, where you can and can’t park near campus because/ get it wrong and you will be towed and follow the traffic on-line.  UK Police Chief Joe Monroe explains. “The best thing is the season ticket holders will have the recommended routes on the back of their permit.  They can also visit the game day website to see that.  For up to date current conditions there are a couple of things you can do.  One the social media app WAZE is available as well as checking the game day twitter account for any updated information that we’ll be pushing out from  the command post”

You can also check on-line to see what’s restricted on game day.  Only small purses and bags will be allowed inside Commonwealth and everything will be checked.  And as we learned last year, drones are a definite no no.  FAA regulations make the stadium a ‘no fly zone’ during events.
