Lexington Community Comes Together To Remember 5191 Tragedy

Family, friends, and hundreds of caring members of the  Lexington community came together at the UK Arboretum Saturday morning for a public memorial service to mark the tenth anniversary of the 49 lives that were lost in the Comair 5191 plane crash near Blue Grass Airport.

Speakers included Deborah Hersman, former chairperson of the National Transportation Safety Board and the lead investigator of the August 27, 2006 crash.  Representing the families were Matthew Snoddy, son of victim Tim Snoddy, Sue Byrd, mother of victim Brian Byrd, and Anita Threet, wife of the late Greg Threet.  The somber event was capped off by a symbolic bird release at the 5191 Memorial Sculpture near the garden of remembrance.
