The City of Lexington’s 2016 budget had a first reading before the Urban County Council Tuesday.
The move comes after several weeks of intense negotiation. Notable provisions include additional funding for renovating the former Fayette County Courthouse as well as a raise for all city employees. Mayor Jim Gray says the budget will come up for a final vote at Thursday’s council meeting.
“Now the process gives us ten days during which time to review the Council’s recommendations for adjustments and changes in the budget and determine what, if any, action in terms of vetos we would take,” he said.
If Gray decides not to take action, the budget will automatically go into effect.
