Let The Exhibitions Begin

Nov 1, 2013

It’s the official start of basketball season.  Both Wildcat teams at UK will face off against their first exhibition opponents.

First to go are the men, they take on Transylvania at 7:00 tonight in Rupp Arena.  Coach John Calipari says his team is anxious to play.  “We’ve been playing each other now 22 practices so I think they’re just about ready to put it out there against somebody else.  We’re still trying to evaluate who’s in that top six, seven, eight.”

The ladies are up on Sunday.   Their first exhibition will be against Eckerd College.  Tipoff is at 1:00 at Memorial Coliseum.  Head Coach Matthew Mitchell hopes to see 40-minutes of up tempo basketball.  “I want our point guards and all of our players to really push the ball on offense and try to go get as many lay-ups as we can in the game and put a lot of pressure on Eckert…I want to see us play some very tenacious defense without fouling.”

The Associated Press and USA Today pre-season polls both place Kentucky’s men’s team in the top spot.  UK Women’s Basketball was given the seventh slot by the AP and USA Today ranked them in eighth.
