Frankfort, KY – A recanvass of the votes in the Republican primary for Kentucky Secretary of State did not change the outcome of the race. Kentucky Public Radio's Tony McVeigh has the numbers.
On election night, Bill Johnson defeated Hilda Legg by just over 1,100 votes. In the recanvass, Johnson picked up five votes and Legg gained 11.
"And so, I concede this race to Mr. Bill Johnson and I wish him the best in the future and am just very grateful for all the wonderful support I received."
Looking ahead, Legg says she will support the Republican ticket this fall, from top to bottom. Bill Johnson now goes on to face Democratic nominee Alison Lundergran Grimes, who defeated Secretary of State Elaine Walker, who was appointed by Gov. Beshear. That occurred in January, after Republican Secretary of State Trey Grayson resigned to take a job at Harvard University.
