Leestown Expansion To Slow Fair Traffic

Residents in Lexington’s Masterson Station area are encountering delays as the state moves forward with the Leestown Road expansion.

Leestown Road will be three lanes wider when construction wraps up late next year, but for now the two-lane road is adding some time to travelers’ trips. Natasha Lacy with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says the expansion is part of a larger state project.

"The Leestown Road project with Citation Boulevard are combined as one project and they are both on schedule. Anticipated completion date is scheduled for December 2015," she says.

Lacy also cautions that work on the $4.8 million dollar Leestown project will not stop during the Bluegrass Fair July 10-20.

"Our project group and our project engineer have been in touch with members of the fair board. Construction will be continuing during the Bluegrass State Fair, so citizens who plan to attend the fair will need to leave their homes to allow ample time to reach their fair destination," she adds.

The next major construction project likely to affect drivers is the widening of a section of New Circle Road from Versailles to Leestown. Work is slated to begin on that project next Spring 2015.
