LEXINGTON, Ky. - The co-founder of Gray construction and mother of Lexington Mayor Jim Gray has died. Lois Howard Gray passed away Monday afternoon at the age of 91.

She was born in Glasgow, Kentucky on Sept. 20, 1920. Mrs. Gray earned a Bachelor's degree from Transylvania University and a Master of Arts degree in Art Education from Vanderbilt University.

In 1960 she started a construction company with her husband, James Norris Gray. When she became a widow in 1972, Mrs. Gray took over the business with her sons.

Mrs. Gray was passionate about the arts, having served on the endowment board of Appalshop and as a member of the Kentucky Arts Council and the Kentucky Oral History Commission.

Funeral arrangements for Lois Gray will be handled by Kerr Brothers.
