FRANKFORT, Ky. -- – The Kentucky Senate returns to Frankfort today to resume the special session on Medicaid. But the House of Representatives won't be participating.

The House left the special session for good on March 24th, after passing the Senate's version of the Medicaid bill. Gov. Beshear then used his veto power to return the bill to his original intent. House Democrats are refusing to override the vetoes, so any action the Republican-controlled Senate takes in that regard will be moot.

Because the session isn't officially over until both chambers adjourn, lawmakers are still being paid. But Legislative Research Commission Director Bobby Sherman is holding the money in escrow, until legal questions about it are resolved.

"Once we know what the law is, and analyze that law, then we'll make a decision as to what the final result will be."

House Speaker Greg Stumbo suggests seeking an attorney general's opinion on the pay issue. In the meantime, Senate Republicans are refusing to accept any pay for the veto days.
