Nasdaq Chairman Apologizes For Facebook Glitch

RENEE MONTAGNE, HOST:

And the initial public offering for Facebook was one of the most anticipated ever. But what happened after the hype may be more interesting. So think of today's last word in business as the comment section after the Facebook entry on the IPO.

STEVE INSKEEP, HOST:

If the chairman of NASDAQ had to have commented, it would have to say, sorry. He issued a public apology after a glitch delayed the start of Facebook stock trading.

MONTAGNE: Facebook underwriters would surely comment: I'm relieved. They had to intervene in the market to prevent Facebook stock from ending the first trading day down.

INSKEEP: None of these problems prevented Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg from changing his Facebook status to married. Mr. Zuckerberg wed his longtime girlfriend Priscilla Chan in a surprise backyard ceremony.

MONTAGNE: Even the guests were surprised, having been told they were coming to celebrate Chan's recent graduation from medical school.

INSKEEP: And thanks to the IPO, she can now say she is married to the head of a real publicly traded company and not just some little Internet startup.

That's the business news on MORNING EDITION from NPR News. I'm Steve Inskeep.

MONTAGNE: And I'm Renee Montagne.
