Last Survivor Of First State Police Cadet Class Dies At 94

Kentucky State Police

The last surviving member of the first Kentucky State Police cadet class has died at the age of 94.  Services are to be Wednesday in Prestonsburg for retired lieutenant Chester Potter.  Potter died Saturday at a nursing home.

State police Commissioner Rodney Brewer honored Potter in March for being the last surviving member of the 1948 cadet class. He retired from the agency in 1975.

State police issued a news release when Potter was honored last year, and in it, he recalled that cars weren't issued to cadets. Some vehicles were available, but he said he once rented a horse to get to his destination.

Initially assigned to Pikeville, he specialized in tracking and said officials would call on him to track anyone who tried to hide in the mountains.
