Land Near Rock Creek Preserved By State Fund

The Kentucky Heritage Land Conservation Fund has purchased 90 acres of land in McCreary County for preservation.

The land is along Rock Creek, a popular stream for trout fishermen that is stocked with mountain trout by the state Department of Fish and Wildlife.

The land was purchased for the Kentucky State Nature Preserves Commission's Wild Rivers Program.

A release from the Energy and Environment Cabinet says the land is surrounded by the Daniel Boone National Forest. At least three federally-endangered species are known to live in Rock Creek and the surrounding area, including the Blackside Dace, the Cumberland Bean Mussel, and the Indiana Bat.

Zeb Weese, executive director of the nature preserves commission, says Rock Creek is a great example of both conservation and recreation.
