Louisville, KY – The museum has been closed since August 4, when its main floor and basement
sustained flood damage estimated at more than four million dollars.
Now, executive director Lynn Ashton says the entire museum will have a new look when
it re-opens April 18.
(we have decided to turn adversity into opportunity. we are not only going to redo the
museum, we are going to renovate the museum. we are not only going to renovate the
main floor of the museum, we are going to renovate the second floor of exhibits of the
museum).
The renovation will cost five-point-five million dollars. The museum will get about one
million dollars from its insurance claim. Ashton says the rest of the renovation funds will
be sought through grants and from other sources.
