Bowling Green, KY – The Kentucky State Police say only one person was killed on the state's highways this holiday weekend. Trooper John Hawkins says an increasing number of Kentuckians are using seat belts and that is having an impact.
"Over the last couple of years we have increased our enforcement of seat belts, and of course with the passage of primary seat belt law we're able to do that more effectively; and increase our seat belt usage in the state."
Hawkins says the only motorist killed during the holiday period in Kentucky wasn't wearing a seat belt. The KSP spokesman says he believes it is very possible many drivers used extra caution because of the weather conditions.
The Christmas holiday enforcement period ran from Thursday through Sunday night.
