Kentucky Reaches New Voter Registration High
By Tony McVeigh, Kentucky Public Radio
Frankfort, KY – Kentucky's new voter registration numbers are out, and they're record-setting.
Four years ago, there were nearly 2.8 million registered voters in Kentucky. That rose to more than 2.8 million for the May primary.
But even that number has now been eclipsed, said Les Fugate, of the Secretary of State's office.
"We have a record number of registered voters who will be able to participate in this fall's election, with 2.9 million voters," said Fugate.
Democrats still outnumber Republicans.
"Democrats are very dominating in Kentucky in voter registration figures. They outnumber Republicans two-to-one," said Fugate.
Since May, 32,000 more Democrats, 13,000 more Republicans and almost 4,000 more independents, or people affiliated with another party, have registered to vote. Fugate said the registration numbers could bode well for turnout for the November 4th presidential election.
