The unrest following fatal shooting of an 18-year-old in Ferguson, Missouri has some Kentucky politicians worrying aloud about police tactics.
Kentucky U.S. Senator Rand Paul wrote in a TIME magazine online op-ed that “the images and scenes we continue to see in Ferguson resemble war more than traditional police action,” blaming the militarization on government overreach.
Democratic Congressman John Yarmuth is also sounding the alarm on the tactics, which he described as “appalling and antithetical to American values.”
While Lexington Mayor Jim Gray is not commenting on the situation in Missouri, Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer says – with the rash of teen mob violence taht broke out in his city last March – it’s important to learn from what’s happening elsewhere.
"We are certainly aware of what is going on in St. Louis and we have contingency plans in the community all the time for any event," he said.
