LEXINGTON, Ky. – Several players with ties to the Bluegrass State heard their name called in the NBA draft Thursday night.

Enes Kanter, who was supposed to play college basketball for Kentucky but was ruled ineligible by the NCAA, was the third draft pick.

Former UK guard Brandon Knight was snatched up by the Detroit Pistons.

"I'm a player that likes to learn, so I know in Detroit I'll be able to learn, be able to get better, and you know that's one of my goals," said Knight.

Morehead State star Kenneth Faried was also drafted in the first round. He told NBA TV what it felt like to learn he was going to the Denver Nuggets.

"It really hits you and it shocks you when you hear that name called. You're waiting, you're waiting, looking around, talking to your family members. The next thing you know you hear your name shout out. It just feels great."

Lexington native and Butler University product Shelvin Mack went to the Washington Wizards.

UK players Josh Harrellson and DeAndre Liggins were also drafted in the second round.
