Kentucky Congressman Garners Support For Reform Plan

Congressman Andy Barr met with medical professionals and students planning to enter the field, to talk healthcare reform.

Barr believes any reform should lower the cost of medical costs and calls defensive medicine the main driver of inflated costs.

“The fear on the part of healthcare providers; doctors, nurses, hospitals, that they’re going to get sued and so they order too many tests, a battery of tests or procedures that frankly are unnecessary and don’t contribute to quality care.  So our bill, the ‘Saving Lives, Saving Costs Act’ is supposed to, through medical malpractice reform not only increase the quality of care for patients, but also reduce the costs for patients.”

House Bill 4106 would keep frivolous medical lawsuits from ever seeing a courtroom; legislation that Barr believes has fallen through the cracks.  “Whether you’re a supporter of the President’s healthcare law or if you oppose the President’s healthcare law, this is one area of healthcare where the Obama-care or the Affordable Care Act did not address.  And so we think that all people from all parties and different points of view can get behind this kind of healthcare reform
