Keeneland Holding Second Annual Sporting Art Auction Wednesday

Some highly coveted pieces of equine art will hit the auction block at Keeneland on Wednesday.

The second Annual Sporting Art auction, a collaborative effort between the famous track and The Cross Gate Gallery will showcase 175 lots of paintings and sculptures. Cross Gate spokesman Greg Ladd says the catalog includes some very rare items:

"We have some really unique bronzes by Isidore Bonheur, a 19th century French sculptor, who died in 1901 I think, in a piece depicting a bear and bull fighting that he did in 1857.  There are only two known to exist today," Ladd told WUKY.

The auction will be held in the Keeneland sales pavilion stating at 4p.m. on Wednesday.  Doors will be open at 11 a.m. Bidders are encouraged to arrive early to pick up their paddles.
