Keeneland Fall Meet The First Under New Leadership
LEXINGTON, Ky. - Keeneland officials are touting a world-class lineup, a series of special events, and an expanded social media presence as part of their Fall Stars race meet, which begins this Friday.
The 17-day meet will be the first with Keeneland’s new president Bill Thomason at the helm.
"I've had a lot of people asking me 'Are you nervous about the race meet coming up?' Honestly I wasn't, until everybody starting asking me about it," Thomason told reporters at a press conference Tuesday.
Thomason said, all joking aside, he’s expecting great things from the Fall Stars theme which continue past opening weekend.
"It ended up a natural celebration, which is going to highlight those things that are very important about Keeneland and very important about our communitym" he said.
Those things include, of course, a celebration of the horses, but also a partnership with the Make-A-Wish foundation, college scholarship day, when full time college students will receive free general admission and a chance at $1000, as well as a day honoring military families. Fans are also invited to snap photos of Keeneland and upload them to Instagram with the fallstars hashtag, with a winner to be picked by the end of the event. The race meet will run through October 27th.
