Judge Sentences Former Lexington Councilmember To Three Years Probation, Plus Three Week Jail Term

LEX 18

A former Urban-County Council member has been sentenced to three years of probation, and three weeks of jail-time for her role in a payroll check scheme.

Sasha Love Higgins pleaded guilty to two felonies and three misdemeanors back in August. The judge on Thursday sentenced Higgins to 3 years probation, and she must also serve three weeks in the Fayette County Detention Center.

Higgins, who was a Hampton Inn General Manager, set up a payroll account for an employee who no longer worked for the business and continued getting checks in that employee's name. The bogus checks totaled more than $4,000.

Higgins resigned from her 2nd District council seat days after that indictment earlier this year.

Prior to her sentencing Higgins expressed remorse for her decision, claiming that she had become a changed person.
