How Do You Use Internet? State Agency Wants to Know

FRANKFORT, Ky. -- A state agency focused on Internet access is surveying Kentuckians about how often they get online and what they use the Internet for. The Commonwealth Office of Broadband Outreach and Development sent out a survey request week to 100,000 businesses, organizations, and households across the state.

"These results will help us build a strategic plan. And we hope to have regions - we're working with area development districts --ad we're going to have four to five regions across the state so that we can do targeted awareness education campaigns," says Broadband Outreach Executive Director Brian Kiser.

Some of the questions on the survey include what type of Internet access do you have, and how often you get online for school, work, shopping, and other activities.

The Office of Broadband Outreach was created in 2010 using federal grants to identify Internet coverage. Kiser says a previous survey his office conducted found that most Kentuckians have access to broadband, but only about 58 percent use it.

"Overall we just want our citizens to have equal footing in the job market, in healthcare, and just make Kentuckians as successful as possible by providing them or equipping them with all the tools that the whole United States receives."

The survey will be available for a month at broadband.ky.gov.
