Frankfort, KY – The budget plan unveiled almost two weeks ago cut university funding by 40-million dollars over the biennium. House Speaker Greg Stumbo says some of that will be restored, but not all. "Instead of the two percent, which we initially looked at, that would be less than that by about five and six million dollars. So, they could get that in the first year."
In the second year, Stumbo says about 10-million dollars could be restored to the universities. Once finalized and drafted into bill form, the budget plan will get a hearing before the House Appropriations and Revenue committee. A House floor vote on the budget is still expected sometime next week.
