LEXINGTON, Ky. – A unique central Kentucky art project comes to an end this week with a public auction in Lexington.

Horse Play 2010 was the first time schoolchildren got involved in the Horse Mania fiberglass statue project. More than 50 Fayette County schools were represented, with elementary and middle school students decorating foals and high schoolers in charge of full size horses.

LexArts administered the project. President Jim Clark considers Horse Play a huge success.

"All these kids got to participate in a big project. It also showcased the talent of the teachers, but also the teachers were able to tie in different subjects like history, design, perspective, math."

Clark says Horse Play could come back sooner than the original Horse Mania project, which debuted in 2000 and returned to Lexington last year.

Your last chance to see the statues is Saturday March 5 at the Downtown Arts Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is $5, children 12 and under are free.

The auction will be held later that evening. Money raised will benefit arts education projects. An extra fiberglass foal that wasn't part of the initial display was painted blue by local students and signed by UK Coach John Calipari.
