High Voter Turnout Could Delay Ballot Tally

By Tony McVeigh, Kentucky Public Radio

Frankfort, KY – Kentucky Secretary of State Trey Grayson said that the counting of ballots in certain parts of Kentucky may be delayed due to problems with voting machines.

Grayson said that Kenton County in northern Kentucky had to take some voting machines offline and replace them with older machines. The newer ones were not properly recording straight party votes for either party, according to Grayson.

"That will mean that vote returns will be much slower in Kenton County, because tabulation will take a lot longer. That's a really contested state Senate race. We'll see how the night goes on, depending upon the results of other races, what that means for control of the Senate, or at least finding out who controls the Senate," Grayson said.

Grayson is referring to the race between incumbent Republican Senator Jack Westwood and Democrat Kathy Groob. Four years ago, Westwood defeated Groob for the seat.
