Health Department Begins Mosquito Spraying

By Brenna Angel

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Humid weather and mosquitoes can make summertime in the Bluegrass uncomfortable, but the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department says the pesky bugs can be avoided.

Spokesman Kevin Hall recommends getting rid of any standing water around your property.

"If you have dog dishes, pet dishes, bird fountains, the little inflatable swimming pools, don't let water stand those. Dump those out. Anything that can have standing water, those attract mosquitoes and they lay their eggs in those."

The health department begins spraying for mosquitoes tonight Tuesday night, starting with the 40502 zip code and working across Lexington throughout the month of June.

"Really what we do is we spray the mosquito sprays in areas that have been identified in the past as either high risk of mosquito or possible places for West Nile."

Hall says the spraying will take place in the evening hours when mosquitoes are most active.
