Grimes, McConnell Trade Jabs Over Government Shutdown
FRANKFORT, Ky. - The looming shutdown of the federal government is providing fodder the 2014 Senate race.
In a news release Monday morning, Democratic Senate candidate Alison Lundergan Grimes took aim at Republican Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, charging that McConnell is at the center of Washington’s current dysfunction. The release also lists Kentucky’s 16,000 preschool children who attend Head Start and 25,000 federal workers in the Commonwealth as groups that could suffer if lawmakers do not reach an agreement.
McConnell's campaign responded, charging Grimes with taking a "partisan stand" with President Obama and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to “shut down the government rather than allow Kentuckians to be spared the devastating impact of Obamacare for one year.”
