Grimes Lends Her Voice To Clinton Chorus At DNC

Kentucky Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes takes to the podium at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia tonight.

The lone Kentuckian set to address the conventional hall this week, Grimes plans to paint a picture of the Hillary Clinton she’s known since she met the then-First Lady in 1993 as a teenager. Grimes is the daughter of former Kentucky Democratic Party chair Jerry Lundergan, a close friend of the Clinton family.

Monday morning, Grimes offered a preview of her remarks during a breakfast speech to the Virginia delegation.

"The Hillary Clinton that I know, she is not only detailed and very diligent, as most of the media and press like to penalize her for, but she is curious, inquisitive. She's someone who is an amazing listener," the 37-year-old constitutional officer said.

Like other speakers Grimes hopes to address a united room tonight, despite the protests and interruptions by supporters of Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders that overshadowed early events on day one. Grimes’ father told WDRB-TV he understands those frustrations.

"I know what the Bernie Sanders folks are feeling in their stomach," he said. "It's a great loss to them, but you know we all came together."

Grimes has shied away from speculating about a potential position in a Clinton administration, saying instead she’s focused on her job back home. She's scheduled to take the stage between 5 and 6 p.m Tuesday night.
