Grayson: Gubernatorial Debate Schedule Needs Expanding

AP

With the governor’s race narrowed down to two Louisville-based candidates and a debate schedule that focuses almost exclusively on central Kentucky, some political observers are worried issues important to other parts of the state could get short shrift.

Former Kentucky Secretary of State Trey Grayson tells cn|2 Pure Politics it’s important for the candidates to connect with voters with diverse concerns across the Commonwealth – and right now the confirmed debate appearances don’t give them that opportunity.

"It really is a disservice to folks outside of that central part of the state," Grayson says. "My guess is there will be enough pressure from all of these areas that you'll see a few more debates added because it really is... irresponsible to not have debates outside of the central part of the state."

Debate season will kick off this Friday when Conway and Bevin attend the County Judge-Executives and Magistrates Conference in Louisville.
