MT. STERLING, Ky. – The city of Mt. Sterling has applied for a $300,000 Community Development Block Grant to move its police station.
Mayor Gary Williamson says the station has flooded four times in the 12 years he's been in office. Staying at the Main Street location, Williamson says, is not an option.
"We need to be someplace because we just can't keep doing this. And of course the flooding has forced the building to deteriorate quite a bit."
Williamson says the city has its eye on the former Commonwealth Bank building on Bank Street. He says the structure is in good condition, is currently listed for sale, and would be an ideal location for the Mt. Sterling police department.
