Grant Will Speed Parkway Project

Kentucky officials say a $24 million federal grant will speed construction of a segment of the Mountain Parkway expansion.

The grant will allow construction to begin two years ahead of schedule on a congested 2.4-mile segment that will extend the Mountain Parkway from its easternmost end at U.S. 460 and Kentucky 114 in Salyersville.  Officials say the current segment is a bottleneck, with more than 80 entrances for restaurants, stores, medical offices and other properties.

Kentucky will cover the additional $15 million needed to complete the Salyersville segment.  The entire Mountain Parkway expansion in eastern Kentucky is expected to be completed in six to 10 years, at an estimated price tag of $753 million.
