Grant Will Aid Out Of Work Kentuckians

Kentucky has secured a grant worth more than six million dollars to assist the state’s long-term unemployed.

The Job-Driven National Emergency Grant worth $6,174,566 was awarded to Kentucky by the U.S. Department of Labor.  The funds are intended to target people who have gone without jobs and have utilized their unemployment benefits and will be used to create and expand training programs to help those who have been laid off find work.

Governor Steve Beshear said “Equipping workers with the relevant skills that Kentucky’s employers require is vital to the success of the Commonwealth’s long-term prosperity,” said Gov. Beshear. “These funds will help Kentucky’s workforce development system deliver critical work-based learning and training to hundreds of unemployed Kentuckians.”

The grant money will specifically go to the Kentucky Career Center in the Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet to fund the Kentucky Career Center Get Opportunity also known as the GO program.
