Grab The Leash: Woodford Wag Set For Saturday

Memorial Day weekend means plenty of cookouts and festivities – including one geared toward residents of the canine variety.

Woodford Humane Society’s annual “Woodford Wag” event gets underway this Saturday morning bright and early. WHS marketing director Beth Oleson says the 5K race and 2K dog walk are ideal for the serious runner or the casual walker.

"We have the race out at the Woodford County Park, so it's a beautiful little piece of Versailles countryside and the runners and walkers both get to run the cross-country trails. So there is shade and trees, nice even grassy trails," she says.

Capping off the benefit is a series of contests, including a tail wagging competition.

"There is also a best kisser contest for dogs who love to lick," Oleson says. "One of the most fun ones is the wag dog look-a-like. If you go to WoodfordHumane.org, you can see our little logo dog of undetermined breed and we have folks who think their dog looks like the wag logo come up on stage and see who gets the closest."

Registration opens at 7:30. The run starts at 8:30.
