FRANKFORT, Ky. – Gov. Steve Beshear has declared a State of Emergency in response to severe storms and flooding, and forecasts of more bad weather on the way. Beshear says many rivers and tributaries are already overflowing their banks, and the state must be prepared for all weather and flood-related emergencies.

"The National Weather Service offices in Kentucky have been in communication with emergency officials across the commonwealth discussing this situation and the potential threat of high wind, large hail, heavy rain and possibly tornados. Emergency management officials, in turn, have maintained direct communication with the governor's office."

Beshear says his office has already received written disaster declarations from the City of Bardwell, as well as Carlisle, Fulton, Hickman, Spencer and Livingston Counties. Verbal declarations have been received from Ballard and McCracken Counties. The governor expects to hear from more cities and counties, as the storms continue.
