Lexington, KY – Braving the cold and rainy weather, hundreds of needy Fayette County residents lined up around the perimeter of Broadway Christian Church Monday morning where they patiently waited to receive frozen turkeys and all the ingredients necessary to create a Thanksgiving feast. Those lucky enough to be among the first one hundred or so in line were greeted by Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear and First Lady Jane Beshear. The governor encouraged all who can to help out those in need this Thanksgiving. Lexington resident Willie Edwards was among the first in line to receive a Thanksgiving basket. He says the donated food will make his family's holiday an extra special one. Distribution of the Thanksgiving baskets continues through Wednesday at various locations throughout Lexington. God's Pantry CEO Marianne Gwinn says more than 4400 families have requested assistance through the program this year and financial donations are appreciated. Those interested in donating to the Sharing Thanksgiving program can call 859-288-5324, or log on to GodsPantry-dot-org.
