Georgetown College Admits Response To Racism Slow

By Associated Press

GEORGETOWN, Ky. – The president of Georgetown College says the central Kentucky school is taking steps to address a student's complaint about racism after a slow initial response.

Bill Crouch told a Monday assembly of about 800 at the private liberal arts college that security has been increased, a hotline set up to report disrespectful behavior and harsh penalties will be put in place for students who make racial slurs, including expulsion.

Crouch told students the school was taking ownership of the problem.

Kappa Alpha Order suspended the fraternity's Georgetown chapter after the complaint of black student who said he was referred to by a racial slur from someone in front of the KA house.
