Frankfort, KY – Lexington attorney Gatewood Galbraith is expected to officially enter the governor's race as an independent candidate later this week.
Galbraith said he will submit more than 7,000 signatures Thursday to state election officials. That's far more than the 5,000 required under state law to get his name on the ballot to run as an independent gubernatorial candidate.
Galbraith will face Democratic Gov. Steve Beshear and Republican nominee David Williams in the Nov. 8 election.
Last December, Galbraith filed paperwork declaring his intent to enter the race for governor. That declaration wasn't enough to earn him a spot in the first gubernatorial forum set for Wednesday in Louisville.
The Kentucky Farm Bureau invited only Beshear and Williams to the forum. Galbraith said he considered his exclusion a snub.
