Funeral Arrangements Announced For Lexington Mayor Foster Pettit

Funeral plans are now set for Former Lexington Mayor H. Foster Pettit who died over the weekend in Hammond, Louisiana.

 UPDATE

The service for Pettit will be held Saturday, November 29 at 2:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church on North Mill Street.   It will be followed by a public reception at the Carnegie Center in Gratz Park.
 
The 84-year-old Pettit had been in the Intensive Care Unit battling a life-threatening bacterial infection.

 He caught the infection during a fishing trip in October when the boat he was on with family and friends capsized.

 Pettit got a cut on the leg, causing the infection.

 Pettit was mayor of Lexington from 1972 to 1978.

    

The Lexington Herald-Leader reports Pettit was battling a life-threatening bacterial infection. For the last few weeks, he was being treated at the intensive care unit at North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond, Louisiana.

Pettit was on a fanboat in the Louisiana Delta in October when the boat capsized and he sustained a cut to his leg. He was later diagnosed with a vibrio infection.

Pettit was Lexington's mayor from 1972 through 1978. Funeral arrangements have not been announced.
