Frank X Walker Book Makes Slate Top Ten List

Dec 13, 2013

A book by UK English professor Frank X Walker has been selected as one of the top 10 poetry collections of 2013 by Slate Magazine.

"Turn Me Loose: The Unghosting of Medgar Evers" tells the story of the civil rights leader’s assassination in 1963 from multiple points of view. Walker has described the work as part of an emerging genre known as historical poetry. He spent three years writing the book before its publication in the spring by the University of Georgia Press.

It’s been a year of honors for Walker, who was also named Kentucky’s first African-American poet laureate in February.

Walker is also the author of eight other poetry collections and two poetry anthologies.
