Former Police Chief Considers Run For Mayor
LEXINGTON, Ky. - Lexington Mayor Jim Gray could have his first challenger in the 2014 mayoral race in former police chief Anthany Beatty.
Rumors have been making the rounds for several weeks. Now the police chief turned vice president of campus services tells the Lexington Herald-Leader he is weighing a run for office next year. Beatty says he has notified his supervisors at the University of Kentucky.
Beatty became the city’s first African-American police chief in 2001 and retired in 2008. While he has not filed formal paperwork or outlined a specific agenda, Beatty says he believes Lexington can do better.
Mayor Jim Gray announced his intent to run again last November. No other candidates have thrown their hats into the ring yet.
